“I like how the gritty urban reality of a street like Pico Blvd.—covered with graffiti and chain link fencing—meets the wide-open ocean and clear blue sky. Only in LA.”
Congratulations to MMIX writer and photographer, Sylvia Sukop!
Her photo “Last Tag on Pico” was featured in Los Angeles Magazine for their 50th anniversary.

What an amazing celebration we had on Wednesday night! It was wonderful to see families, friends, and literary lovers out in the crowd.
From EV Fellow Mehnaz Turner’s blog:
“It’s an evening I will always remember–not just because we got to read. But also because we shared a sense of connection with the audience and with each other. I felt the generosity of others was palpable. This is something I realized about writing last night: it’s not just a solitary act, but a communal one.
As the Emerging Voices 2009 comes to a close, we’re excited to continue as MMIX.
So, as it turns out, the Final Reading wasn’t so FINAL. Cheers to MMIX!
